Creations of the Week

It seems that I've been blogging about other shops a lot lately. It seems that I haven't shared with you MY creations as much as I used to, as much as I intended to when I started blogging.

I'm going to post my creations of the week on one of these days starting this week *fingers crossing*: Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. I don't want to commit to a specific day at this point as I honestly feel that I need to give myself a little break and not be tight with more schedules. Flexibilty...yeah that's what I need right now.

The Spotted Tuesday and Saturday Artisan will continue as is. I LOVE featuring other artists. Hopefully I can host giveaways every Sundays, but this is not a promise either.

Without further a due, here are my newest cards:

The little tweet bird is back!!! Every now and then, I miss these felt birdies.

Mother's day is just around the corner. This year, I have a great start. A few of these cards have been sold. Really, are there any mothers who don't deserve this card?

More felts. And with all these details, $3.50 seems to be a great bargain! :-)

Yes, spring has sprung!

Check out my shop for more selection of handmade greeting cards.

Spotted Tuesday: Shops Worth Mentioned

This week Spotted Tuesday series will be quite different. This time I want to take a bit more time acknowledging some great artists that I met through Etsy.

ChellasCollection
I stumbled upon this shop in search of great findings for Vancouver 2010 Spotted Tuesday. Her beautiful Vancouver pendant caught my eyes and landed a spot in Spotted Tuesday. Julie, the owner of ChellasCollection, then made one for me as a thank-you gift. What a sweet doll! Could you imagine what kind of service you'll get coming to Julie's shop? Friendly artist that will go above and beyond to make you happy, that's for sure!

LavenderGreetings
I have a pleasure knowing Karen through EtsyGreetings. Talented papercrafter and such a helpful team mate. Get your cards and invitations here. Just like Julie, she'll go above and beyond to make your shopping experience a satisfying one.

JennJennD
Jenn made sweet charms. Look at these colorful cute robots!!

She stumbled upon my NatSupplies shop and snatched a set of 80 colorful cellphone straps (with lobster claps). I think she is going to be busy for a little while until she returns to my shop :-)

concettadesigns
Want hair clip that is different? Lindsay has collections of zipper flower clips. That's right, they are made of zippers. How cool is that? That's what you call thinking outside the box :-)

And she purchased a set of alligator pinch clip (with teeth) from my NatSupplies shop. In fact, she just re-ordered and I'm almost out of stock.

Saturday Artisan: jacarandadesigns

Meet another talented Etsy artist residing in Toronto, ON: Jane of jacarandadesigns.

Inspiration is a very fundamental key to create a beautiful art. Read on how Jane thoroughly elaborates her key points to get inspired.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?
I'm the owner of Jacaranda Designs. I live in Toronto with my husband and two boys, fish and hermit crabs! I used to work in the IT industry but left that world behind a few years ago. I started making jewelry in 2005 and just loved creating pieces. I found working with beads and creating my "treasures" very therapeutic. I have attended many jewelry-making courses over the last few years and continue to learn new and exciting techniques to incorporate into my jewelry. Jacaranda Designs is a result of my passion for making beautiful pieces of jewelry!

What is your favourite item in your shop?
My favorite item in my shop right now has to be my Ivory Pearl and Gold Bouquet earrings. Classic pearls with a modern flair.

What is your best seller?
My best seller is my Antique Brass Birds Nest Earrings with pale blue pearls.

What inspires you?
Color
There's color all around us and yet sometimes, I think we fail to see it. Sometimes though, I'll look at a color and it will arouse certain emotions in me....love, anger, warmth, energy, creativity to name just a few. I love looking at various color combinations in fabrics, in nature, even in what other people choose to wear. Color not only affects my mood but I think the mood of other people around me also.

Nature
I love plants and flowers. I look forward to spring and summer so much, just to see the glorious plants that Mother Nature has to offer. If you look closely at flowers and even leaves, you'll see beautiful textures and color combinations. Even the smell of certain plants can be intoxicating. There's nothing quite as relaxing as taking a stroll around a gorgeous garden and just observing the plants and insects. I take tons of photos during the spring and summer and often refer back to them when I'm making jewelry as they are full of inspiration.

My Children
There's something about the innocence and simplicity of the way children look at things that can be very inspirational. Sometimes they comment on or get enjoyment out of those things we find so "everyday" and yet if you really listen closely, it's those details that can be very enlightening provide a different way of looking at things.

Music
As much as I love a quiet, silent home at times, most of the time I love to listen to music. I find it very relaxing to work while I listening to certain music. If I had to choose a favourite, I love Cuban music...not too slow that it makes me want to put my feet up and do nothing, and not too loud that I'm prevented from concentrating.

Other Artists
I'm constantly awed by the talent displayed by other artists. If I'm ever feeling in a blah mood and not very creative, I just check out some of the wonderful artwork created by others. That's usually all it takes to inspire me to get started on a new project!

Lastly (yes, I know it was only five !), my husband inspires me. He's my biggest fan. He's always there to support me and offer words of wisdom and encouragement.

What is your goal for 2010?
My goal for 2010 is to continue to create pieces of jewelry that I love and of course, to expand my customer base and increase sales.

How do you promote your shop?
Any and every way I can think of. I have a blog where I feature my jewelry as well as other Etsy artists. I also have a monthly giveaway of one jewelry item. I advertise on Google, Facebook and Project Wonderful. I also belong to many online communities where I try and make valuable contributions.

Any advice for a newbie running his or her on-line shop?
Clear photos are so important. My photos have improved over time but it's been a lot of trial and error. Even now, I look at a few of the photos and think I should probably redo them as they're not quite as good as I'd like. Also, be patient. Hard work eventually pays off. I started 2.5 years ago and yet 90% of my sales have been in the last year.

During this recession time, tell us one thing that you do to save money?
I try not to waste supplies and also not to buy supplies unless I know what I'm going to make with them. The first year in business I bought so many beads that I've never used which was a bit of a waste. Now I'm gradually using them up in my designs! Also, make your own lightbox. There's so many instructions online. I made mine for less than $20 and it's stood the test of time!

If you're shopping for Easter holiday, don't forget to visit her shop. There are tons of Easter theme jewelries available at jacarandadesigns.

Happy Spring!

Happy Spring everyone!

I'm looking forward to those beautiful flowers that should start to bloom real soon. Don't they just make the world more colorful and prettier?

Easter is sneaking up on me and I didn't realize that until late last week. This year I didn't get a chance to make any Easter cards, but I have these cute Easter tags made.

I won a giveaway in early March. Woo Hoo! It's a nice change after hosting so many giveaways this year that as a host, I wasn't eligible to win. I had to be fair after all :-) But as you know some were generous enough and gave me something as a thank you gift for featuring them.

Anywhoo...for the giveaway that I won, I got to choose 4 graphic sheets and the images used in these tags are one of them. I thought I was lucky enough to find their shop, but I guess I was more than lucky for winning their giveaway.

Curious which shop I'm talking about???

It's Sparrow Graphic!!

You'll find beautiful and unique designs along with spectacular service and super friendly owners.

Follow my blog and stay-tuned. I guarantee that you'll get a chance to win their graphics. Is there enough hint here? :-)

But first, tell me what Easter project are you working on?

More Cards

Just quickly sharing cards that I made last week. Some are listed in my shop, while others to follow.

I think making 7 cards for a week while I have a full -time job (a total of 11 hours including commuting, 5 days/ week), a toddler to raise, and a house to maintain, on top of keeping my sanity, is quite an accomplishment, don't you think? Oh...and I have 2 Etsy shops to maintain...

I tried forcing myself to stay up late every night to do what I need to do to maintain my shops, but I realized that if I keep forcing myself, I'm simply taking the fun out of cardmaking. That simply beats the purpose, doesn't it?

So tonight, I'll try to be in bed by 10pm at the latest, and hopefully by doing this, I'll re-charge myself and can stay up a bit late on the weekend.

I'm curious to know how do you manage your days? Share some tips, will you?

Saturday Artisan: GirlyGirlBead

Meet this week Saturday Artisan: Michelle of GirlyGirlBead.

She is another super busy woman trying to juggling what life throws at her. Read on how she 'survives' the daily chaos.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what arts/ crafts that you make?
I'm a working mom with two young girls - Fiona is almost 3 and Phoebe is 16 months. I've been married to my loving and supportive husband for 15 years this summer. I got interested in making jewelry about 10 years ago but have only recently decided to turn my occasional hobby into an actual business. I find my craft is very therapeutic and it helps me relax at the end of a busy day.

What is your favourite item in your shop?
My favorite item is probably the silver leaf earrings with picture jasper stones.

Or maybe the pearl and silver chain necklace.

Or maybe the hematite and red crystal earrings.

I guess I love all of it!. That's why I make it. If I don't love a piece, I won't list it for sale. But I really do want to keep those silver leaf earrings for myself. I may have to make another pair!

How does your day go in general?
My day is a constant rush and starts at 5:30am and I'm usually not in bed until 11pm or even midnight. I work full-time and then work on my Etsy shop, making jewelry, blogging, etc. in the evenings after the girls are in bed. Its exhausting but exciting and fun at the same time. To keep up with everything, I try to dedicate each evening to one task. One night I make new jewelry, another night is for social networking (blogging, reading blogs, Facebook, etc.), another night is for taking photos and doing listings, another night is dedicated to bookkeeping, etc.

What is your goal for 2010?
2010 is all about networking and fine-tuning my shop. I'm not expecting huge sales this year. That's for 2011! But I hope to have a established a good following and fan base by the end of the year. That's one reason I'm re-launching my blog. I'll be using it to post new design ideas and ask for feedback to help me fine-tune my designs so that I can best meet the needs and wants of my customers. Besides jewelry, I have two other addictions - the internet and shopping. So I'll be indulging both those passions as well in my blog. I plan to feature other Etsians, blogs, and unique retail stores too, like you do here on your blog.

During this recession time, tell us one thing that you do to save money?
Money has been so tight for us lately, not just because of the economy. The birth of our 2nd child has really put a strain on our finances. We've done so many things to try to cut costs and save money. The biggest thing has been to just stop eating out. We added it up one month and found we were spending hundreds each month on eating out between Starbucks, lunches, the occasional family dinners out and picking up fast food on the way home. By cutting back on dining out, we're saving money and eating better too.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's giveaway sponsored by Michelle! Perhaps you want to do your 'homework' by visiting her shop now :-) I have my favorite as below:

The New Place

The moving, the cleaning and the unpacking were done (for now).

I had started my day job as of Monday. Little Ethan adjusted quite well, so was I. But deep down, eventhough we don't have that conversation just yet, I know that he misses me during the day, and so do I. We may look tough, but inside I know that we wish if we could spend our days together. Oh how I love to hear the word 'mama' coming out from his mouth. Certainly I hear that less now and I miss that. He's been calling mama during sleep for the last couple of nights. I'm sure he misses me too.

Both Ethan and I were tired at the end of the day (not to mention DH who drives 3 hours each day, poor him) and we spend last of our waking hours as much as we could together. We hardly see Mr. sunshine together as we used to since we had to say goodbye early in the morning and say 'hi' late afternoon.

As I was uploading pictures from the camera, I watched short films of Ethan that I took while I was a SAHM. They are just simply random films capturing him dancing, biking, eating, playing with my Big Shots machine, and so on. I treasure those films and I'm so glad I took them. I couldn't get those moments back no matter how much I wish I could turn the time back. I know that I will miss these kind of moments for the next 9 months, ... in fact actually I already am. If you're mom, I think you can relate to me. I know that the first couple of weeks are the hardest and it will ease up as time goes by . . . and I hope that's the case for me and for Ethan.

Enough ramblings here, I'll share with you some beautiful views from our new place.

Beautiful views: mountains and lush green.

Not too busy either eventhough we're right in the city center.

View that I can enjoy while crafting on the weekends or on statutory holidays. Yupe, I don't think I can take vacation.

And my little corner.

I hope I can enjoy this new setting on this upcoming weekend. I heard that the weather is going to be really nice and I'm looking forward to it.
